Upside down text generator

Type your words and get them flipped upside down, ready to copy into a post, a comment, a bio or a message. The order is reversed too, so the text reads correctly when someone turns their phone around.

How to use it

  1. Type your text

Type or paste the words you want to style. Every style below changes as you type.

  2. Pick a style

Look through the styles and choose the one that suits your bio, caption or message.

  3. Copy and paste

Select Copy next to the style, then paste the text where you want it and check how it looks there.

How upside-down text works

Unicode includes letters that look like others turned upside down, mostly from phonetic and mathematical symbol sets. The generator swaps each letter for its turned look-alike and reverses their order, so the last letter comes first. Turned around, the result reads like your original words.

Letters that look the same either way, such as o, s, x, z, H, N and O, stay as they are. Some turned capitals come from other alphabets, so on some devices they look slightly different from the letters around them.

Where people use it

Upside-down text is a novelty. It is hard to read, and screen readers cannot read it as words, so use it for fun rather than for anything people need to understand.

  • Jokes and replies in group chats.
  • Captions and comments that make people turn their phone.
  • Bios and display names with a playful twist.
  • Puzzles and games with the answer hidden upside down.

Upside down, mirrored or reversed

Upside-down text turns each letter and reverses the order, as if the line were rotated half a turn. Reversed text only puts the letters in backward order without turning them, and mirrored text flips letters from left to right, like writing seen in a mirror. Unicode has very few mirrored letters, so this generator does not offer that style.

Frequently asked questions

How do I type upside down on my phone?

Phones have no upside-down keyboard, so type your words above, copy the flipped version and paste it where you want it. The characters are ordinary text, so they work in most apps that accept emoji and symbols.

Why are my words in reverse order?

Turning a line of text upside down also swaps its ends, so the last letter ends up first. Reversing the order means the text reads correctly when the screen is turned around, instead of reading backward.

Why did some letters not change?

Letters that look the same upside down, such as o, s, x, z, H, N and O, already read correctly when turned, so they stay as they are. Accented letters and other alphabets have no turned version and also stay as you typed them.

Is the upside down text generator free?

Yes. It runs in your browser with no account and no app to install. Your text is converted on your device and is never uploaded or saved, so you can flip as much text as you like.
