Mirror text generator

Type your words and get them as mirror text: the order is reversed and each letter is swapped for its reflected twin, so the line reads correctly in a mirror. Copy it into a post, a bio or a message.

How to use it

  1. Type your text

Type or paste the words you want to style. Every style below changes as you type.

  2. Pick a style

Look through the styles and choose the one that suits your bio, caption or message.

  3. Copy and paste

Select Copy next to the style, then paste the text where you want it and check how it looks there.

Which characters change in a mirror

Each pair shows the character you type on top and the reflected character you get underneath. Characters in grey look the same in a mirror or have no reflected twin in Unicode, so they stay as typed.

How mirror text works

A mirror reverses a line from left to right and reflects every letter. The generator does both: it puts the characters in reverse order and swaps each letter for the Unicode character that looks like its reflection, such as ɒ for a, ɘ for e and ƨ for s. Held up to a mirror, the result reads like your original words.

Letters that stay

Letters that look the same in a mirror stay as typed: A, H, I, M, O, T, U, V, W, X and Y, and i, l, m, o, t, u, v, w and x. So do the letters Unicode has no reflected twin for: f, g, h, j, k, n, y and z, and G, J, Q and Z.

The digit 3 and the brackets change too: 3 becomes Ɛ and each bracket turns to face the other way. Several twins come from other alphabets, such as Я for R and И for N, so on some devices they look slightly different from the letters around them.

Mirror, upside-down and reversed text

Mirror text reflects each letter from left to right, as in a mirror. Upside-down text turns the line half a turn instead, and reversed text only puts the letters in backward order without changing them. The upside-down text generator makes the half-turn version.

Frequently asked questions

What is mirror text?

Mirror text is writing as it looks in a mirror: the line runs backward and each letter is reflected. Held up to a mirror, it reads like the original words.

Why is my mirror text in reverse order?

A mirror reverses a line from left to right, so the last letter comes first. Reversing the order as well as the letters means the text reads correctly when it is held up to a mirror.

Which letters change in mirror text?

The letters with a reflected twin in Unicode: a, b, c, d, e, p, q, r and s, and B, C, D, E, F, K, L, N, P, R and S. The digit 3 and the brackets change too. Every other character stays as typed.

Why do some mirrored letters look different from the others?

A few twins come from other alphabets or from symbol blocks, and each device draws them with its own fonts. They can look a little lighter, taller or shorter than the letters around them.

How do I turn mirror text back into normal text?

Paste it into the plain text converter and choose Mirrored text. It swaps each reflected letter back and reads the line from its end.

Is the mirror text generator free?

Yes. It runs in your browser with no account and nothing to install. Your text is converted on your device and is never uploaded or saved, so you can try as many versions as you like.
