Strikethrough text generator

Put a line through your words in places that have no strikethrough button, such as Instagram captions, Facebook and LinkedIn posts, and bios. Type your text, copy the crossed-out version and paste it in. Underlined text is here too.

How to use it

  1. Type your text

Type or paste the words you want to style. Every style below changes as you type.

  2. Pick a style

Look through the styles and choose the one that suits your bio, caption or message.

  3. Copy and paste

Select Copy next to the style, then paste the text where you want it and check how it looks there.

How the line is added

Strikethrough text uses a combining character: an invisible mark that draws a line through the character before it. The generator adds one after every letter, digit and symbol, so the line runs through each word and stays when you paste it. Spaces get no line, so a small gap shows between words.

Underline works the same way with a different mark, which draws the line under each character instead of through it.

Apps that have their own strikethrough

Some apps already format strikethrough, which is easier to edit later:

  • WhatsApp: put a tilde on each side, like ~text~.
  • Discord: put two tildes on each side, like ~~text~~.
  • Slack: put a tilde on each side, like ~text~.
  • Google Docs and Microsoft Word: select the text and use the Strikethrough option.

How it can look

Each app draws the line with its own font, so it can sit a little higher or lower, or show small gaps between letters. Search inside apps usually does not find crossed-out words, and screen readers may read the marks oddly or skip the text, so keep anything important in plain letters.

Frequently asked questions

How do I cross out text on Instagram?

Instagram has no strikethrough option. Type your words above, copy the strikethrough version and paste it into your caption, bio or comment. The line is part of the characters, so it stays after you post.

Can I use strikethrough on LinkedIn or Facebook?

Yes. Posts on both have no strikethrough button, but text from the generator keeps its line when you paste it. It works well for a crossed-out first thought followed by the real one in plain letters.

Why does the line look broken?

Each character carries its own piece of the line, and some fonts draw those pieces at slightly different heights or widths, so small gaps can appear between letters. How it looks depends on the app and on the device of the person reading it.

Is the strikethrough generator free?

Yes. It runs in your browser with no sign-in and nothing to install. Your text is converted on your device and is never uploaded or saved, so you can cross out as much as you like.
