Small text generator

Type your words to see them as tiny raised letters or as small capitals, then copy the version you like into a bio, a caption, a name or a message. Small text suits quiet notes, signatures and playful replies.

How to use it

  1. Type your text

Type or paste the words you want to style. Every style below changes as you type.

  2. Pick a style

Look through the styles and choose the one that suits your bio, caption or message.

  3. Copy and paste

Select Copy next to the style, then paste the text where you want it and check how it looks there.

Two kinds of small text

Tiny text uses superscript letters, the small raised characters used in footnotes and phonetics, so the words float at the top of the line. Every letter turns small, including capitals, and digits become small raised numbers.

Small caps keep each letter at the height of a lowercase letter but in the shape of a capital, which looks neater and reads more easily than tiny text. Both styles turn capitals into the small form, so you can type in any case.

What does not shrink

Unicode has no superscript q, so a q keeps its normal size in tiny text, and small caps have no x. Small caps also leave digits as they are. Accented letters, punctuation and other alphabets stay as you typed them in both styles.

Some of the letters come from phonetic symbol sets, so on some devices one or two of them sit a little higher or look slightly different from the rest. Check the result after you paste it.

Where small text works

Tiny text is hard to read for anyone with low vision, and screen readers may spell it out or skip it, so keep important information in normal letters.

  • A quiet second line in an Instagram or TikTok bio.
  • A signature, a credit or a small note under a caption.
  • Playful whispered replies in chats and comments.
  • Display names in apps that offer no formatting.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make small text on Instagram?

Type your words above, copy the tiny or small caps version and paste it into your bio, name or caption. Instagram keeps the characters as they are. Keep your username and links in normal letters, so people can still find you and tap them.

What is the difference between tiny text and small caps?

Tiny text uses raised superscript letters, which are much smaller than normal letters and sit at the top of the line. Small caps are capital-shaped letters the size of lowercase ones, so they sit on the line and are easier to read.

Why is one of my letters normal size?

Unicode does not have a small version of every letter. There is no superscript q and no small capital x, so those letters stay as you typed them. Accented letters and other alphabets also stay the same in both styles.

Is the small text generator free?

Yes. It runs in your browser with nothing to install and no account. Your text is converted on your device and is never uploaded or saved, so you can try as many versions as you like.

Can I make the text in a picture smaller?

Not with this tool, which only changes text you type. To change the words inside an image, use Edit text, which redraws new words in the original style. To copy the words out of an image as text, use Image to text.
